About

Sammy Stein

Sammy Stein is a writer, author, columnist, and reviewer. One of her publishers describes her as, “Author Sammy Stein stands at the forefront of excellence, commanding international acclaim for her authoritative prose and exceptional journalism.”

Sammy believes in the power of words – and written words particularly as tools for connection, empowerment and engagement and her works have proved this time and again.

Accolades include Phace Magazine’s Book of The Year, A Gold Literary Titan Gold award, A Readers’ Favourite Gold Award, A Jazz Times Distaff Award, and a nomination for the Jazz Journalists Association Book of The Year. She has been commissioned by The Library of Congress, Readers’ Digest, Essentials, The Lady, and many other publications.

Sammy has planned, curated, and presented radio shows, interviewed musicians for BBC Radio 3, been a guest on several shows and even curated and ran a music festival in London.

Again, a publisher says of Sammy, “Renowned musicians applaud Sammy’s approachability and unfiltered honesty in her reviews and narratives.”

In addition to music, Sammy was a botany student and became a lecturer. She has had books published on botany and horticulture with Hamlyn Octopus and Top That PLC.

Sammy’s books include All That’s Jazz (Tomahawk), Women of Jazz ( 8th House), Fabulous Female Musicians, Pause, Play, Repeat, The Wonder of Jazz, and Candid.

In each book, Sammy provides insightful revelations, often provided by the people she includes and interviews. Her interviewees have included Patti Boulaye, Dame Evelyn Glennie, Twin Gazelle, Terence Blanchard, Marilyn Crispell, Liona Boyd, and hundreds more.

Sammy also writes sleeve notes and liner notes and can turn her forensic eye to almost any subject.
